SDN Architecture in 5G

Apart from providing the benefits of speed, it also offers other advantages like:

Providing greater bandwidth which means more devices can be connected compared to 4G.

It can be used to provide better health, security, and safety services.

Lag-free connections without much interruptions.

Low latency – meaning devices can be controlled remotely in real-time.

How does it Work?

5G runs on new radio frequencies and hence there is a need to update equipment on cell towers. 5G wireless technology has 2 main components:

The Radio access network is made of many small and macro cells that help to connect the mobile devices to the network. These small cells provide the speed and the macrocells help in wide-area coverage and are installed on towers, walls, or light poles.

The core network provides all internet connections and manages all the data.

Together they work their magic to provide great speed and connectivity. But note that the speed depends on the spectrum band the operator runs and the number of such small and macrocells, the carries invests on.
