The False Consensus Effect is a cognitive bias where individuals overestimate the extent to which their beliefs, preferences, values, and habits are shared by others.
In other words, people tend to believe that their own opinions and behaviors are more common or typical than they actually are.
For example, if someone strongly believes that a particular political candidate is the best choice, they might assume that most people they know or encounter also share that belief.
